As aggregators work to make direct ordering and third-party restaurant sales easier, DoorDash is enhancing its white-label restaurant solutions by utilizing voice artificial intelligence (AI).
The leading aggregator in the US said on Monday, August 28, that it is developing voice ordering capabilities made possible by AI to improve how restaurants handle phone inquiries.
Rajat Shroff, Head of Product and Design at DoorDash, stated that “customers expect more from restaurateurs, and restaurateurs even more technology-forward solutions from us — including support for phone channels to meet customers where they’re ordering.”
“One way we’re delivering more and enabling our partners to grow their businesses is by supporting operators by capturing customer demand through investments in our voice product,” the company said.
Orders placed over the phone remain quite significant. Even after the restaurant sector underwent a digital shift in the early 2020s, customers still place their restaurant orders over the phone. In a poll of more than 2,200 U.S. customers, 42% said they had placed a phone order in the three months before, a far greater percentage than the 17% who had used the marketplaces of aggregators.
